Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Gamma Eta Chapter · University of Washington

Founded May 22, 1948  ·  One of 22 Founding Brothers

Attending the University of Washington on the G.I. Bill, Brother Stallworth was one of twenty-two distinguished men who chartered the Gamma Eta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. on May 22, 1948. His role went far beyond membership — he was an enthusiastic recruiter and a driving force in making the chapter a reality.

He played a pivotal role in pushing for the Gamma Eta Chapter to be granted membership into the University of Washington's Inter-Fraternal Council — and he succeeded.

Because of Brother Stallworth's efforts, Kappa Alpha Psi became the first African American Greek-letter organization to be recognized as an official fraternity by the University of Washington.

With chapter membership on the Inter-Fraternal Council secured, Gamma Eta could hold events on the UW campus — eliminating costly outside venues and opening the university's doors to Black Greek life.

People across Seattle eagerly awaited invitations to the Chapter's Black and White Ball at the University Student Union. It was a classy event, and everyone came dressed to impress.Brother Stallworth remained active and loyal to Kappa Alpha Psi throughout his entire life, always encouraging brothers to achieve, get educated, get a degree, and challenge for jobs.

In Memory of Leslie J. Stallworth

This website was created with love by his daughter, Chalice Stallworth.
Every June, we gather in his name to give books away — because that's what he would've done.
